The Consultant

Gina Phairas
A former San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers instructor and trainer with extensive experience, Gina served for years as the San Francisco SPCA Canine Rehabilitation Coordinator, assessing and developing treatment plans for all shelter dogs with behavioral issues.

Part of her job was to run the Academy Intern program, working with newly certified trainers—some brand new to the field, some with many years’ experience already—on behavior modification for shelter dogs.

In addition, Gina has consulted for shelters and rescue groups across the country on behavior assessment and runs a successful dog training business of her own.

  • Gina provided insight and creative twists to my approach to a difficult case. To have an unbiased third party share ideas and experiences in a non-judgmental way was so liberating… and Gina always added a dose of much-needed humor. She helped me create a great routine for a busy family, resulting in three happy adopters and one extremely happy Lab.”

  • Starting my own training business, I found dog∗tec’s case coaching extremely helpful. I got the guidance and support I needed to succeed and learned how to make efficient use of my time. Gina’s knowledge and instructional skills are amazing!”
    Jenny White, Dog-Ed
  • Gina has an excellent understanding of the theory behind behavior and of the most effective way to apply that knowledge to working with clients and their dogs. Her expertise not only helped me with the case I called her about, but with similar cases since then. Definitely worth the investment!”
