SF Permit Information

Special Information For San Francisco Dog Walkers

The City of San Francisco passed legislation last year requiring professional dog walkers to obtain a permit from San Francisco Animal Care & Control. Permit applicants must attend either a minimum 20 hour classroom training program or complete a minimum 40 hour internship program. The dogtec Dog Walking Academy satisfies this requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions about The Dog Walking Academy

When do I have to have my permit?
The legislation goes into effect July 1st, 2013. There is a 4 month grace period ending on November 1st, 2013 to accommodate walkers who are enrolled in a course or an internship program that will not be completed by July 1st.

Will the class interfere with my work hours?
No. The Dog Walking Academy is designed to work around the workday. Class runs Thursday and Friday evening and daytime Saturday and Sunday.

Do my employees have to be permitted, too?
Yes, all dog walkers must be permitted.

I notice the Dog Walking Academy curriculum includes a business section. What if I don’t want my employees to attend the business portion?

Can I get a discount for sending my employees through the class?
